Harnessing the Power of Your Breath in (and out of) the Pilates Studio

Breathe deeper. Move stronger. Discover more in your Classical Pilates practice.

“Above all, learn how to breathe correctly.” — Joseph Pilates, Return to Life Through Contrology

Breath is at the heart of the Pilates method. It connects mind and body, supports precision and control, and has the potential to transform the way we experience every movement. But how often do we truly use the power of our breath when we workout?

Join Anna Pearce for a dedicated workshop exploring the art and science of breathing in Classical Pilates, and discover how a deeper understanding of your breath can bring greater strength, clarity, connection and flow to your practice.

She’ll begin by exploring the foundations of respiratory anatomy, developing a clearer understanding of what happens in the body as we inhale and exhale, and why the quality, rhythm and timing of our breath matter.

From there, she’'ll bring these insights into movement, working mainly using the mat exercises and small pieces of Pilates equipment to explore how the breath can support, challenge and enhance your movement. Through focused practice, she’ll teach you how breath and movement work together to create greater efficiency, control and power, helping you move with more intention and get more from every exercise.

For Joseph Pilates, breathing was fundamental to physical wellbeing and his method of Contrology (Pilates). As we enter the colder months and the season of sniffles and coughs, this is an opportunity to return to one of the most essential elements of our practice: the breath. To pause, reconnect and build a more conscious relationship with the way we move and breathe.

Whether you're looking to refine familiar exercises, deepen your understanding of the classical method or discover a new level of connection in your practice, this workshop invites you to explore the work with fresh eyes and a renewed appreciation for the power of every inhale and every exhale.

Come and discover what changes when you stop simply breathing through the movement, and begin to move WITH your breath.
